Installation and Service Engineers - Covering the M4 Corridor

Job Description:

We are looking to recruit Installation and Service Engineers to join our existing team. We are based in Donington, Lincolnshire but due to roles across the UK we are specifically looking for engineers to cover the South and South West. 

We would welcome applicants who live in the following areas:  Oxford, Swindon, Bristol, Reading, Bath or surrounding areas

Main Job Purpose:

To carry out the installation of security and fire systems in line with NSI requirements and the associated British and European standards.

Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Understanding of Electrical Principles
  • Understanding of IP networks
  • Want to progress in a diverse industry with electrical knowledge being at the forefront but will extensively include IT, IP networking, System programming, Mechanical engineering
  • Positive, flexible outlook and willing to travel to contracts nationwide.

Main Duties of Role:

  • To act in a professional and friendly manner when dealing with all customers and GBSG Staff
  • To carry out Installations and/or maintenance on the above systems to meet quality standards and company policies and procedures
  • Provide 24 hour callout out as required on a rota basis, including weekends, public holidays and periods of staff holiday and sickness
  • Use of technologies and admin systems as required (PDA, tablet)
  • Liaise with the Technical Manager for advice on systems and technical problems
  • To attend meetings as requested
  • To ensure customer needs are satisfied regarding sales and service
  • To ensure compliance to security systems response as to NSI requirements
  • To ensure adherence to the Quality requirements of ISO9000 and compliance with the National Security Inspectorate and to complete internal audits as directed
  • To maintain a good working relationship with other departments
  • To attend internal and external training courses as and when required
  • To work within the confines of the Data Protection Act 1998: respecting the rights of Data Subjects and ensuring that personal data is processed as described in the Company's Data Protection Policy
  • To assist in other areas of the company operations (within capabilities) as required

Technical Salesperson

Job Description:

Main Job Purpose:

We are looking to strengthen our technical sales team by recruiting a first class Technical Salesperson. Working mainly in business-to-business sales (but with some business to consumer sales), you will be involved with all sales aspects of business development including sales generation, processing, reporting, quoting/estimating and administration. You will be tasked with growing our business within the current geographic area and also look to expand our existing services and products to new and existing customers.

With full accountability for your technical sales function, you will be responsible for meeting and delivering targets in accordance with company expectations, working closely and positively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the appropriate objectives and priorities are supported and achieved.

Using your proven technical expertise, you will understand our customers’ requirements and then incorporate your technical knowledge into your sales pitch.

Essential requirements:

  • Demonstrable record of success in the achievement of sales, profit and strategic objectives
  • Possess a technical qualification (or qualified by experience) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Previous experience of taking accountability for the on-time implementation of organisation targets and performance objectives

Role accountabilities:

  • Ownership and accountability for the full sales process from enquiry to design.
  • Identify and explore market growth opportunities that are complimentary to business plan objectives.
  • Develop business relationships and identify key accounts in order to implement growth, including identification of cross product selling opportunities to existing and new customers.
  • Maintain Regular contact with key accounts and log all communications through Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
  • Use software systems internally to ensure all data is recorded, including logging of calls and customer liaisons through CRM.
  • Generate enquires through local networking events
  • Identify opportunities and make contact for introductory visit
  • Work closely with Marketing and provide support and follow up to strategic marketing campaigns
  • Work closely with senior management team colleagues to ensure operational delivery of accounts
  • Provide support to other sales team personnel, including attending customer meetings and site visits as required
  • Ensure that you are accessible to customers either in person or by phone to directly discuss issues
  • Provide support and be accessible for admin and finance teams, providing direct customer contact relating to account queries including negotiation and recovery of funds where non-payment of invoices occur
  • Working as a member of the Sales Team, coordinate own sales forecasting, planning, and budgeting processes used within the sales organisation
  • Proactively monitor and strive to maintain high levels of quality, accuracy, and process consistency throughout the sales process
  • Work to ensure all business leads and objectives are assigned and dealt with in a timely and appropriate fashion
  • Work closely with subordinates and colleagues to inspect design and installation quality and prioritise opportunities for improvement
  • Directs and supports the consistent implementation of company initiatives
  • Build peer support and strong internal-company relationships with colleagues at all levels

Salary & commission structure:

Basic salary: to include all of the above role responsibilities including cross selling of all products.
Commission: to be paid on any direct sales in line with the GBSG Sales Commission Plan

Further commission based packages will be made available from time to time in conjunction with the GBSG strategic development and in line with the Marketing plan for the expansion of Monitoring and Maintenance contracts where commission will be calculated on a predefined plan basis at the beginning of each campaign.

SIA Licensed Mobile Patrol Guard

Job Description:

We are looking to recruit an SIA licenced mobile patrol guard to join our team in Donington, near Spalding.

Cndidates must have a current SIA licence, have a full driving licence (and be able to drive a manual vehicle) and be physically fit.

GBSG has over 35 years of experience in providing the highest level of  security and fire systems to our customers.  We currently work across a variety of sectors from schools, colleges and universities to food manufacturers and large corporate warehouses. 

We are looking for someone to join our GB Guarding team as a mobile patrol guard.

You will be based in our offices in Donington, near Spalding  providing the following services to our local customers:

  • Regular patrol
  • Locking/unlocking services
  • Emergency responses to fire and intruder alarms and then acting as a co-ordinator when required between our control room, police/other emergency services and customers.


Essential requirements:

  • SIA Security Guard Licence or a Close Protection Licence
  • Willing to undertake CCTV Licence training if requested (this will be paid for by the company) and to work in CCTV station
  • Full, clean driving licence and able to drive a manual vehicle
  • Friendly and flexible
  • Professional approach to all duties
  • Live in the Spalding, Boston or surrounding areas
  • Physically fit

Main duties of the role:

  • Follow assignment instructions at all times
  • Undertake all duties required of a mobile patrol guard to ensure the safety and security of our customer's sites
  • Manage risks and incidents as required
  • Complete incident reports
  • Complete vehicle inspection at the beginning of each shift
  • Act in accordance with health & safety legislation and NSI standards at all times
  • Wear the provided uniform at all times, keeping this clean and tidy
  • Providing a polite, professional and effective security service to our customers
  • Undertake training to ensure knowledge remains up to date
  • Such other duties as required for proper fulfilment of the role.

Weekly hours will vary between 50 - 63 hours depending on shift pattern.  Night and weekend work is required and the rota pattern will be fully explained at interview.

HSEQ Advisor - GB Management

Job Description:

Main Job Purpose:

We are looking to recruit a professional and credible HSEQ Advisor to support George Barnsdale and Sons Ltd and its sister company GBSG Ltd (please see the individual websites for more details about the companies).  Based in Donington, near Spalding, you will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of health and safety, quality and environment are covered, monitored and adhered to in accordance with current legislation and practice.  You will provide support, guidance and advice to help ensure the delivery of company internal and external audit programmes.

Essential Requirements:

  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent as a minimum
  • Previous experience of maintaining Quality Standards (ISO9001)
  • Previous experience of maintaining Environment Standards (ISO14001)
  • Internal Auditing experience
  • Work place Health, Safety, Quality and Environment experience
  • Evidence of the creation and maintenance of HSEQ Manuals
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels to ensure Quality standards and HSEQ requirements are adhered to
  • Organised & proactive
  • Professional, credible and friendly
  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • Full driving licence and willing to travel to external sites on occasion.

Desirable Requirements:

  • NEBOSH Diploma
  • Previous experience of implementing ISO 9001:2015
  • Train the Trainer qualified
  • Face Fit Testing Qualified
  • Knowledge of H&S in the Construction industry
  • Internal Auditing Qualification.

Role accountabilities: 

  • Take full accountability for delivery of an effective and proactive HSEQ function as the onsite expert for the GB Group of companies (GBSG Ltd and George Barnsdale Ltd)
  • Work proactively and pragmatically with colleagues to ensure HSEQ requirements are understood, advice is offered and legislation is adhered to
  • Review procedures and working practices to ensure that they reflect best practice and current legislation
  • Lead in the delivery of 0-5 year HSEQ Action Plans
  • Complete site based risk assessments and advise others on necessary actions to ensure HSEQ compliance
  • Carry out daily and routine monitoring of all practices and site operations, including fire alarms and first aiders
  • The management and monitoring of all contractors and visitors on site for Health and Safety compliance and permit controls
  • Ensure the correct PPE equipment is issued to staff and complies and is used in accordance with regulations (e.g. footwear, ear defenders, masks: Face Fit requirements, etc.)
  • Oversee all training that is carried out on site and maintain training matrix
  • Carry out inductions for new starters
  • Attend and lead the Safety meetings
  • Carry out internal quality audits and train and lead other internal auditors
  • Manage, maintain, organise and lead external audits
  • Create, deliver and follow up on Tool Box Talks
  • Carry out accident investigations from cause to improvement and where appropriate be the lead on RIDDOR reporting
  • Produce and circulate audit and non-conformance reports and provide guidance and support to achieve audit requirements
  • Maintain the GB Group central document register
  • Observe all safety rules and procedures, ensuring that the work area, equipment and materials are left in a safe state; and that reasonable care is taken for the health and safety of all fellow employees and any other persons within the work area
