VADS the one…

Video Analytical Detection Systems – or VADS for short – work in conjunction with a cctv camera and can be programmed to recognise certain activities within a setting. That could mean distinguishing an intruder from the movement of undergrowth in the wind; identifying wrongly parked vehicles or spotting whether someone has left a package behind.
“Basically any sort of behaviour that can be recorded and defined as a video image can be tracked and an alarm raised using a VAD system,” said Neil Jackson, Director of CCTV and Access Control at GB Security Group, who is involved in a review of this new area as a member of a special committee set up by the industry organisation British Security Association (BSIA).
So if you’ve ever wished you could stop that bush tripping your alarm every time the wind blows, or wondered how to stop thieves using a lorry mounted crane on that dark section of the perimeter, this is the intelligent development.
“It’s technologically superior, more reliable and only marginally more expensive than passive systems,” added Neil Jackson. “We’ve had a lot of interest since we unveiled this new technology to customers.
“As well as overcoming the Peter and the Wolf syndrome in situations which are prone to giving false alarms, there are a huge range of situations where it has the potential to significantly increase the return on investment for cctv cameras.
