News - Long term partners make for happy relationships…

“As well as improving site security, it’s notching up a 60% annual saving”

When security guard Jim Macfadyen retired this year, he’d clocked up ten years with GB Security Group.

More unusually he’d spent the whole time on site for just one customer –Bifrangi in Lincoln, where GB Security Group has provided cover since 1999.

It’s a long term relationship all round, but things haven’t stood still at the Bifrangi site over the past decade.

As well as manned guarding, a recent security review by GBSG resulted in a completely integrated solution for the 20 acre site, which is helping to cut theft, reduce costs and bring in working efficiencies.

The review followed a series of high value losses of titanium material from the site.  With each loss costing the company up to £250,000, Bifrangi had to prevent any further forced entries through the site barriers.

The new system includes a 34 camera cctv system, automated gates and an air lock system.  Gates close behind vehicles before kerbs are lowered, and removable bollards prevent side by side entry.  If a large vehicle has to enter, the guard can override the air lock.

Staff use a pedestrian gate, with access control that also informs working time hours and any roll call muster.

The cctv system is fully controlled by the guard, who is backed up during the daytime shift by the remote GBSG control centre.  After the day shift, all monitoring moves to the control centre, who also manage the out of hours access control and perimeter detectors.

As an integrated system, the new installation is helping to improve performance and reduce costs by bringing together security, access and building management systems and technologies into one, seamless operation.

Now, the company is looking to add further access control and fire alarm systems, which will also be integrated into the cctv and other systems to maximise value.

Said managing director Stephen Wright:  “The new system isn’t just improving security for Bifrangi, they’ve also reported to us that our installation has helped them to notch up a 60% saving compared with their original annual spend.”

He added:   “We’re very fortunate to have a stable workforce as the security sector is known for its high staff turnover.  I think it certainly helps us to build long term trusting relationships with customers.”

In the meantime, Jim hasn’t quite completed his farewell.  He’s already been back at work, providing holiday cover at the Bifrangi site.
