NEWS - Convenience stores warned to lock up safe
Retailers are being warned to review their security systems following a soaring number of smash and grab raids by highly organised gangs who arrive on motorbikes armed with bats and laundry bags.
Up to three convenience stores a week in London have been targeted by a highly organised criminal gang in the last month. CCTV has shown them to break into stores within a matter of seconds, leaving just minutes later with hauls of cigarettes and spirits.
And now experts are warning the raids, which started in London, are likely to be repeated in regional cities and smaller centres across the UK.
"The speed with which gangs can operate with a tight plan and a fast getaway means the police struggle to give pursuit. It's important to keep a tight eye on security, like making sure that doors and shutters are properly locked," explained director Neil Jackson.
