Celebrating long service in alarms

Two recent intruder alarm customers have notched up more than 50 years of history in dealing with GB Security Group.

First it was the turn of building company May Tree Designs, who wanted to protect a new home they were building for themselves. Customers of GB Security since they started their business in 1997, they went for the same high spec as in the executive properties they build, which always include a GB intruder alarm.

It's a similar story at a converted chapel building in Corby Glen, where there is another customer with an even longer working relationship. Mr Syddall has been protected by GB Security intruder alarms in each of three house, dating back over 40 years.

Security warning as Bribery Act arrives

Companies could be compromising security as well as putting themselves at risk of prosecution following the introduction of the Bribery Act. By failing to undertake basic screening of employees, they may be failing to meet the requirements of 'due diligence' required by the Act.

Government argues the future for CCTV

Security professionals who are members of the governing body's taskforce have welcomed issues raised in parliament on the future for CCTV and cutting crime.

The BSIA is the governing body for the security industry and Neil Jackson, a director with GB Security is a regular member of BISA taskforce and consultation panels. He said: "It's good to see this high level debate on the direction for public CCTV systems. Many local communities are now coming directly to us, asking for help in keeping a CCTV system going that is being dropped as part of cost-cutting by their higher level Local Authority and they want to know where they stand."

Cutting fuel usage to reduce impact

A new style of van is helping GB Security Group engineers with their green credentials.

The company is trialling a new van for the engineering team that is capable of fitting ladders internally by using carefully designed racking inside the van, meaning there is no need for a roof rack.

"This is making a minimum saving of 10 miles per gallon against our other vans," said director Dave Simpson. "That means a cost saving as well as minimising our environmental impact."

Final farewell to the old name

Two years after rebranding as GB Security Group to reflect the breadth of the company offering, the old GB Alarms name will finally be laid to rest this summer.

"We've had an ongoing communication campaign to make customers aware but the old name does seem to live on in some people's minds," explained director Tom Wright.

"The change was made to reflect our full company offering, which has developed from the early days of solely intruder alarms to encompass the complete range of security solutions."
