Bifrangi is a world leader in the production of flanges, gears, hubs and other items for the automobile and agricultural vehicle industries. The history of the company dates back to the beginning of the 19th century near Venice, producing agricultural equipment and tools for masons, metal workers and carpenters at an artisan level. In the UK, the company is safeguarding high value equipment and stocks at its Lincoln site with a sophisticated integrated security system, including remote video monitoring for round the clock protection.

Italian company Bifrangi, have an impressive history of working steel and at their 20 acre site in Lincoln they are forge making crank shafts and engine components for the aircraft industry.
GB Security Group has provided manned guarding on this site since 1999 and was responsible for manning the gatehouse, as well as operating the telephone, barrier and weigh bridge. Due to the value of the product on site there were four instances of theft of Titanium (a loss of up to £250,000 each time), where the intruders used force on a number of occasions to break through the barriers.
Following a site visit to review the situation, we installed rising kerb blocks, but successful tail gating continued. To resolve this, the existing manual gates were then automated and an air lock system introduced. The gates would be closed behind the vehicle before the kerbs were lowered, the opposite on exiting.
Removable bollards were erected at the side of the air lock to avoid vehicles coming in side by side. In the event of a large vehicle entering site the Guard overrides the air lock with a key and pin lock, the system reverting back, once the vehicle has moved on.
Staff use the pedestrian gate, presenting proximity tags which are programmed for roll call muster and time of attendance for accounts payroll. Misuse of the tags is prevented by the activation of live CCTV recording when the tag is used. Intercom systems are installed at the pedestrian gate and barrier.
Four separate CCTV systems have been installed on site comprising a total of thirty four cameras, thirteen of which are fully functioning dome cameras.
The guard has full control of the cameras, using a touch screen to move around the site, directing the dome cameras as necessary. During the daytime the site is also being monitored, and can be operated from our Control Centre. The guard has instant support if needed, as both parties can operate the system simultaneously.
When the guard's daytime shift finishes, the GBSG control centre takes over sole control of the whole site (including access and cameras, arming perimeter detectors for additional cover) and in the event of any activity our Mobile Patrols will attend.
Said Dave Pearson, Health and Safety Manager, Bifrangi :"Since we introduced remote monitoring, security has improved totally. We were being targeted by scrap metal thieves but since we introduced remote video monitoring we have had no break ins nor any attempts.
"The monitoring saves us money compared with manned guarding. We are now £40,000 better off each year. It's a different service, and certainly having a manned guard can pay dividends in some ways, but one guard can only be in one place at one time. You could give him the cameras here but then he's just monitoring cameras and you lose the benefit.
"The whole security system works well and I cannot speak highly enough of the service from GB Security Group in the ten years that we've been working with them.
"It's so good we are looking at a similar system with identical monitoring at our Sheffield site. I treat them as a one stop shop. Service is good, price is competitive and we know them."
Orders have been placed for further access control systems, and for nine separate fire alarm systems which will be linked into the CCTV system, providing a complete integrated security system for the customer, with an estimated 60% cost saving over their original annual spend.
