Fire Alarms - System Options
GB Security Group provide a wide range of fire alarm options to suit all requirements
As of October 2006, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into effect. This requires risk assessments of properties to be carried out. From the findings of a risk assessment, GB Security Group will identify the possible requirement for a fire alarm system which will then be designed to the following categories and their varying levels;
- 'P' – this category reflects the protection of the property. It is usually indicated as a requirement by insurers but it should be considered when assessing how a fire, however serious, would impact on a company’s ability to operate. This category includes automatic fire detection for identified areas within a property (P2), or a comprehensive system covering the whole building (P1). Unless the property is manned 24 hours a day, a ‘P’ category normally incorporates remote signalling to an alarm receiving centre.
- 'L' – this category reflects the protection of lives. It addresses the Health & Safety aspect of alerting personnel in the event of fire activations. The varying levels address coverage via automatic fire protection and manual call points initiating from specific areas i.e. boiler room (L5), progressing to exit routes (L4), adjoining rooms (L3) to total coverage of the property (L2 / L1).
- 'M' – this category indicates a manual system. This consists of manual call points located adjacent to all exits to air (doors), on exit routes and alarm warning devices throughout the building.
