It’s a long way from an ice breaker in the Falklands, but Dave Simpson has used his naval skills to good advantage to create a career in the security industry.
Dave is director for intruder and fire systems with GBSG, starting out as a member of the engineering team, before moving on through the company, coordinating installations and covering everything from procurement to the monitoring station.
In the navy he was trained in electronics working on wireless and radar. His time included a tour of duty on board the HMS Endurance, which was stationed in the South Pole as an ice patrol boat, and the crew found themselves in the Falklands, where they were undertaking survey work, when the Falklands Conflict broke out in 1982.
Coming home after his naval career Dave found himself firmly at home in the security industry with his electrical background. Now responsible for all developments in intruder and fire systems he comments, “We’re seeing a lot of growth in fire alarms because of increased legislation. By having full accreditation, we are seeing that makes the difference because we can design, install and maintain.”
A keen golfer, with two children and one grandson, Dave has been married to Paula for 14 years.
