The National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (a privately funded policing unit, made up of seconded police officers and police civilian investigators) thinks car thieves have seen their regular pattern of opportunities disrupted due to the pandemic and so they are targeting more portable items such as quad bikes and ATVs. If you’ve had a quad bike stolen once, there are several reasons why the criminals will return.
For instance, the robbers will know the layout of your farm or your property. In addition, they will calculate that you are likely to have a brand-new quad bike replaced by your insurance company. Also bear in mind that thieves are creatures of habit.
The NVCS warns that the criminals are very determined, including smashing through walls. They are also likely to take other small agricultural vehicles. Quad bikes are very easy to move, easy to get away with in the back of a van, and are worth a substantial amount of money. There is a strong demand for stolen quad bikes and they can be transported all over the world.
However, there are many precautions you can take to protect your farm vehicles.
