What fire alarm and security requirements did IV Creative have?

As part of their sustained growth, IV Creative recently expanded their facilities, adding another building to their Sleaford site. As a result, they required a fire and security provider who could take over the existing system, extend and install new fire and intruder alarms and to provide a cctv solution.

Which fire alarm was specified in the new building?

A 2 zone conventional fire alarm was specified, with automatic fire protection on exit routes adjoining rooms, roof voids and workshops. The remote signalling provides fire and fault reporting over IP & GPRS. The system is an L2 designed fire alarm in accordance with BS5839, pt 1, fitted with dual path remote signalling (DP3).

What is BS5839, part 1?

BS 5839 Part 1 is the British Standard that provides essential guidelines for the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of fire detection and fire alarm systems in non-domestic buildings. This standard ensures that fire alarm systems are reliable, effective, and compliant with safety regulations, minimizing risks to life and property. BS 5839-1:2017, the latest version, outlines best practices for system categories (L, P, and M), covering both manual and automatic fire detection methods. Compliance with BS 5839 Part 1 is crucial for building owners, facility managers, and contractors to meet legal obligations and enhance fire safety measures. Regular maintenance and proper installation, as specified in BS 5839 Part 1, can significantly reduce false alarms and ensure optimal system performance. Whether you’re designing a new system or upgrading an existing one, following BS 5839 Part 1 is vital for achieving comprehensive fire protection.

The installation of the new system and the take over of the existing parts of the system ran smoothly.
