“This year’s International Women’s Day campaign theme underscores the crucial role of inclusion in achieving gender equality. It calls for action to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create environments where all women are valued and respected.”
GBSG, an intruder, fire, access and CCTV installer in Spalding supports women in every role and at every level. Managing Director, Neil Jackson
“Security is quite a male dominated industry but that’s not the case at GBSG. Women are employed here in some of the most critical roles, and they make a huge contribution to the running of our business.”
In celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day, we interviewed two of our most trusted managers.
Sandra Hodgson
Sandra Hodgson is the Operations Manager in our Control Room and has been with the company for 17 and a half years. She took on the role 2 years ago and is enjoying it immensely. When asked how she has inspired other women she said,
“I have worked my way through the ranks at GB Monitoring, starting as an Operator, then Supervisor before becoming Manager.”
Sandra’s proudest achievement to date is having her children and grandchildren but also working through the ranks to become the Operations Manager at GBSG. As a woman working in a ‘usual’ male predominant role it can be hard for them to earn respect, but Sandra is a wonderful asset to our team and has our highest regards.
This is what the theme ‘inspire inclusion’ mean to her, “Cultivating an environment where women receive support, appreciation, and acknowledgement.”
Leanne Jayne
Leanne Jayne is the Planning Manager at GBSG, which involves managing the engineers and office team. She has been with GBSG since November 2022. Leanne enjoys working at GBSG because,
“GBSG is a close knit family run workplace and it feels that way, there is no bias or discrimination we are all one big team and I thoroughly enjoy working here.”
She was also asked how she thinks she has influenced other women at GBSG and told us that a member of her team likes how confident she is in such a male predominant role.
This is what the theme, ‘inspire inclusion’ means to Leanne: “To me, the theme ‘Inspire Inclusion’ for International Women’s Day symbolizes the importance of creating an environment where every woman feels valued, respected, and empowered regardless of her background, identity, or circumstances. It’s about fostering a culture of diversity and acceptance where all women have equal opportunities to thrive and succeed. ‘Inspire Inclusion’ reminds us of the need to challenge stereotypes, break down barriers, and advocate for gender equality in every aspect of life. It encourages us to celebrate the unique experiences and contributions of women from diverse backgrounds and to work together towards a more inclusive and equitable world for everyone.”
With the security business being so dominated by male employees, GBSG is glad that they have such a high number of women within the company. It proves that women can do anything men can do. Seeing them performing so well in this industry should empower every woman to reach for their goals.
